Why study Metallurgical Engineering?
Metallurgical engineering education has a vital role to play in contributing to the sustained productivity and prosperity of the resources sector, both domestically and internationally. Graduates with a BE Chemical Engineering with a Major in Metallurgical Engineering will have a strong understanding of the underpinning chemical engineering process principles including mass & energy balancing, process control & modelling and risk management, as well as strong knowledge of metallurgical processes including comminution, flotation, hydrometallurgy & pyrometallurgy. Graduates with a BE/ME Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering will have the skills of the BE graduates as well as additional industry experience and advanced knowledge in advanced process control, safety & modelling. We expect that students pursuing a Major in Metallurgical Engineering at UQ will graduate with extensive metallurgical knowledge and skills and will be ready to contribute to the resources industry throughout Australia and overseas.
