Why study Health and Social Policy?

Students undertaking a major in Health and Social Policy bring social science research skills and theory-informed critical thinking to current social and health policy issues, such as vaccine hesitancy, climate change and mental health, smoking and alcohol intake during pregnancy. The main aims of an Honours year specialising in Health and Social Policy are:

  • To enable students with an adequate background in Health and Social Policy to extend their studies in more depth than is possible with a pass degree
  • To enhance students capacity for independent research and to extend research skills appropriate to the fields of Health Social Science and Social Policy Studies, and;
  • To train to a standard sufficient for a specialist career or enrolment in postgraduate research degrees.
