Why study Environmental Markets?
Environmental Markets field deals with how firms can best balance the financial, social and natural environment aspects of their business to achieve sustainable outcomes. The field includes themes of environmental markets (including emissions trading and renewable energy development), corporate social responsibility, sustainable business practice, communicating for sustainability and strategies for business management in a carbon constrained world. This Field has strong support from a number of Queensland's leading companies and government organisations (see www.uq.edu.au/smart for more information). Business Sustainability is a critical issue for contemporary Australian society. Numerous Australian Government climate change mitigation policy initiatives, including those that involve emissions trading, renewable energy technology development and greenhouse gas emissions reporting, are presenting substantial strategic challenges for Australian businesses, as well as creating entrepreneurial opportunities in emerging environmental markets. This Field aims to equip students with a range of practical skills to manage and take advantage of these complex challenges and opportunities.
