Why study Civil and Geotechnical Engineering?

The unprecedented infrastructure development in Queensland, and Australia as a whole, is generating huge demand for Civil Engineering graduates. This includes specialisation associated with civil engineering in Geomechanics, incorporating soil mechanics, rock mechanics and engineering geology.
The Civil and Geotechnical Engineering dual major is supported by a consortium of global companies. Students are taught by experts working in civil and geotechnical engineering and benefit from UQ's close links with these companies.

What you can study

The Civil and Geotechnical specialisation consists of the major in Civil Engineering, which is taken common with all civil engineering plans, supplemented with additional specialist study and project work in Geotechnical Engineering. This specialisation is designed to equip qualified civil engineers with the skills to approach to complex, multidisciplinary problems concerning earth materials including roads, landslides, piled building foundations, excavations, spillways, tunnelling and mining.
