Why study Art Therapy?

This two year program prepares students for clinical practice in art therapy to a high standard. Program components include: art therapy theory; experiential art therapy workshops; supervised clinical placements to a total of 800 hours; mental health theory and practice courses and a research project, culminating in a written report and portfolio presentation. Students will develop the knowledge and skills to provide art therapy interventions in a wide range of settings and with diverse clinical groups. The program meets the standards set by the Australia and New Zealand Art Therapy Association for professional registration of art therapists. A full-time option over three semesters is offered for international students only. Entry prerequisites are a degree in Visual Arts or equivalent. Students can commence this program only in semester 1. This program is available by internal study only. Please note that the closing date for the Art Therapy specialisation within the Master of Mental Health is 30th November of the previous year due to additional entry requirements. For further information regarding prerequisites, admission processes, program details and any other queries, please contact: Jane O'Sullivan (jane.osullivan@uq.edu.au).
