Course description

This course provides students with an academically supported practical field experience. Students will explore a range of content relevant to the field placement - including literature, history, politics and culture in the Pacific, as well as theory and research methods - and this will be followed by a period of intensive fieldwork. The fieldwork experience will provide students with the opportunity to directly apply content to understand and analyse contemporary social and/or environmental problems and issues, with a specific focus on climate change and local livelihood responses. As part of the fieldwork experience, students may have the opportunity to apply research methods (including participant observation, interviews etc.), and will be supported to develop and practice a regular reflective practice in the field. Assessment is designed to enhance understandings of the fieldwork experience, and to bring a social science perspective to analysis of the experience and field training.
