Course description

This course provides foundation knowledge for social work and social science students. This course is designed to introduce core concepts in social science and ways of knowing about social beings. These three concepts are power, social structure and agency. The course will introduce you to different ways these three concepts are understood using sociological theories, including conflict theory, social action theories and symbolic interactionism. You will reflect on the way power, social structure and agency are experienced in everyday life. Case studies are used to illustrate the practical application of theory.
