Course description

The Science Industry Placement course enables students to gain an understanding of the real world application of their learning, through the completion of 120 hours of placement in a science-related workplace. As part of the course, students will acquire practical skills and experience in an authentic work environment, an understanding of the professional requirements of a graduate, and an awareness of the social, economic and administrative factors influencing an organisation in their field of study. They will also learn about the nature of careers in science, identify possible career pathways, and reflect on their own professional skills and personal development. Compulsory employability workshops before and after the placement provide students with the opportunity to deepen their learning. Students are responsible for securing their own suitable work placement related to their studies, subject to Faculty of Science approval. School and Faculty administrative staff will provide guidance and support through an optional careers workshop, scheduled during the semester 2 mid-semester break. Placements can be undertaken within Australia and, by approval, internationally.
