Course description

This course is the introductory course for the graduate certificate. It will assist students develop advanced skills in activities that require management, coordination, administration and communication in primary health care settings. This may include activities such as management of infection control, sterilisation records and protocols, triage records, management of recall registers for health screening activities such as immunisation and cervical screening, as well as for specific client groups. In addition, students will learn to develop and implement management processes for referrals, clinical records and medico-legal issues. Students will also develop expertise in activities that provide administrative support to the health care team including staff awards, orientation, education and rostering, IT and software, financial management and accreditation and risk management requirements. Students will develop skills in liaising with other health professionals and organisations, coordinating patient services and mediating between patients, hospitals and primary health care settings. In addition students will complete a community resources analysis to develop plans for the ongoing primary health care needs of the community. NOTE: This course may not be offered if the enrolment is less than 10 students.
