Course description

Research and practice at the intersection of music, wellbeing and health is a rapidly developing field with roots in antiquity. Work in the field links together arts, science, health and economic perspectives. In this course students learn about connections between music, wellbeing and health through exploration of a range of practices across different cultural contexts and considering individual through to population perspectives. The wellbeing and health affordances of music is examined through integrated theory and research from interdisciplinary music and psychology perspectives. Students apply knowledge and skills developed in the course to real-world contexts and undertaking a work-integrated placement as part of the course. Transferrable interdisciplinary knowledge and skills are developed through individual and group-work experiences on and off-campus. Students do not need to have any musical expertise to participate in this course. Please note that this course offering may be cancelled if fewer than 10 students enrol.
