Course description

The development of an organisation's human capital is becoming more critical an organisations attempt to survive in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous competitive global marketplace. This course will examine the role of human capital develop in maintaining an organisation's competitive position in today's environment. In doing so, it will identify assessment techniques that will assist HR departments and managers in determining the general learning and development needs of the organisation and the specific needs of the employees. Development can take many forms: it can be achieved through coaching, continuing education, job training, leadership training, mentoring, workshops and other means. In an economy in which technology plays a leading and dominant role, the rapid evolution and deployment of innovation technologies means that to keep up, employees are going to co-evolve - ie. develop the skills, values and perspectives mastery these technologies require. Students will be introduced to practices that help managers to successfully transfer training, learning and development to the workplace so that organisational efficiency and effectiveness improve. The course will also examine special topics of interest, such as program evaluation using the Return on Investment methodology and career management.
