Course description

The Specialties II rotation is split into two 4-week blocks: the Critical Care Course block (CCC) and the Surgical Options block (SO). Contact hours per week for Critical Care Course is 40 hr/week. The Critical Care Course block is conducted in the major teaching hospitals in each Clinical School. The CCC aims to teach the student the skills, knowledge and attitudes involved in managing patients with critical illness. The majority of students' time in each of the three disciplines of Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care will be as direct one-on-one clinical contact and/or ward rounds in ICU with some small group tutorial teaching. The Surgical Options block consists of clinical experience in ophthalmology (2 weeks) and in an elective Surgical Speciality (2 weeks) selected from Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, ENT or Maxillofacial Surgery at available teaching hospital placements.
