Course description

NOT OFFERED IN 2010. Students requiring this course for the Bachelor of Human Services should enrol in CRIM3002. The course critically examines contemporary practices and issues in corrections, courts and policing. The focus is on deepening knowledge utilising evidence-based research, and enhancing skills for practice in the criminal justice system (CJS). Current practices in corrections, parole, probation and rehabilitation will be examined. Models of policing will be examined as well as the current roles of police within the CJS. Court structures and the role of court support systems will be examined. The course provides an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills gained in their undergraduate program to the field of justice and corrections. The course will also examine career opportunities for human service workers in this field.
