Course description

This course is the third in a series of three in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree. This capstone course culminates preservice teacher preparation for learning and teaching Language, Literature and Literacy—the three interrelated strands of the Australian Curriculum: English Learning Area. Preservice teachers will focus on: Language as interactional, ideational and textual; creating Literature; and creating texts. They will develop their role as critical and reflective practitioners through participation in professional communities of educators, expanding their disciplinary knowledge of English and Literacy, building a comprehensive resource portfolio for planning, teaching and assessing in subject English, and prepare an inquiry unit of work using a multi-literacies model that reflects: current curriculum frameworks and policies; knowledge gained from professional learning, and teaching networks; and the engagement of students from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
