Course description

This course continues a student's exposure to the specialist dental disciplines. Students will consolidate skills and competence in history taking, assessment, recognition, diagnosis, care planning and aspects of management for conditions commonly managed within the dental specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, dentomaxillofacial radiology, oral medicine, oral surgery and orthodontics. Students will begin to acquire knowledge and an appreciation of aspects of children's dentistry and special needs dentistry. To support their understanding and clinical skills in these areas students will explore aspects of human and oral diseases, general medicine and surgery, analgesia and anesthesia, dental pharmacology and therapeutics, the human life cycle, growth and development, disability and medical compromise.
