Course description
This course examines the central role of the media and public communicators in putting environmental issues onto the public agenda. The course introduces students to key literature that informs our understanding of the relationship between mass media and the public's understanding of the environment, with a focus on the environmental values and ethics, framing theory, claims-makers and the public sphere, framing theory and the social construction of reality. These concepts are explored with reference to case studies of environmental controversies.
