Assessment methods

The assessment for this unit is comprised of three individual problem-solving tasks (Weight 60%), and a final group project (Weight 40%). Assessment 1- Problem solving: 3 problem-solving tasks will be marked by tutors based on evidence shown of students¿ works through demonstration. Assessment 2- Group applied project: The project is comprised of three components: the project proposal, presentation, and the final report. The project proposal should include the following information: project title, project idea, brief background, datasets, timeline and the team members. All projects will have a 10 min presentation. At least one project member should be present for the presentation. Final report for the project: Students must turn in an 8-page report having the following sections: Introduction; Background; Proposed method; Analysis behind the approach, Details of the experiments and Conclusions.

Course description

Students will learn about log collection and management (Logs, syslog, sysmon, Linux auditing system, The rule-based approach to spotting anomalies), preparing the data for machine learning (techniques for labelling and cleaning the data), common machine learning techniques and tools (supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning, and large scale data analysis), and other AI areas relevant to cyber security such as computer vision and AI planning.
