Course description

This course will provide a broad understanding of the applications of biotechnologies in agriculture including livestock, crops and horticulture. We will also cover, in detail, specific enabling technologies that have allowed translational changes in many agricultural industries including genomics, genome editing, genomic selection, proteomics, recombinant DNA technology, bioinformatics, and molecular diagnostics. Using these enabling technologies, we will describe the most recent advances in plant and livestock pathogen diagnostics, speed crop breeding, crop and livestock nutrition, livestock reproductive biology, vaccinomics for livestock health, genetics and breeding, crop and livestock gene editing, and livestock welfare initiatives. Students will learn about the current global trends in agriculture and how cutting edge biotechnological tools are changing industries to meet food production demands. The course will feature each week different University of Queensland Senior researcher world-renowned in their indicative fields of research.
