Entry requirements

Prerequisites

Approved degree in the same discipline with a GPA of 4.5; or

GCAppLing* or GDipAppLing* with a GPA of 4.5; or

Approved degree in any discipline with a GPA of 4.5 and a minimum of two years language teaching experience.

*Please note the GCAppLing or GDipAppLing can only be used as the basis of entry into the program if you already have an existing approved degree in the same discipline.

Same discipline is defined as a degree with language major (i.e. English and/or other LOTE, literature) or a degree in English language teaching, linguistics or translation and interpreting.

To satisfy the requirement for "same discipline" a minimum amount of content in that discipline is required - this would be at least a major, field of study, or approximately 30% of program content including a mix of introductory and advanced courses.

Students wishing to undertake the dissertation must enrol in the 3 semester #24 Masters program.

Why study the Master of Applied Linguistics?

This postgraduate coursework program offers study in the fields of Applied Linguistics and TESOL. The program has two missions. The first is to provide a quality professional development program for teachers of English and other second languages, and language professionals in translation, interpreting and other second language areas. The second mission is to provide coursework students the opportunity to explore research options and develop specialisations for further study.
