Entry requirements

Prerequisites

To be considered for enrolment, an applicant must hold a bachelor degree; study in fields such as health, humanities, education, social, physical or biological sciences is recommended.

If the bachelor degree was completed more than 10 years prior to program commencement, an applicant must have subsequently completed a postgraduate qualification, or a minimum of 8 units / 4 courses of university level study.

Entry is competitive based on GPA.

The minimum GPA to be considered for admission into this program is 4.0. The GPA cut-off for those offered a place in 2018 was 5.56.

UQ is the only university in Queensland, and one of only six universities in Australia, to offer a Master of Audiology Studies program.

Study the Master of Audiology Studies at UQ and you will learn from international leaders in the field with course content based on the latest research and developments in audiology. The program integrates the theoretical foundations of audiology with practical clinical skills in preparation for a career as a clinical audiologist.

What you can study

This program is conducted full-time over 2 years (4 semesters), beginning in February (semester 1) of each year. Students are guided through the foundational and advanced theoretical aspects of audiology closely integrated with practical clinical skills, and gain the ability to contribute to the development of clinical audiology through research.

Placement courses

Students undertake over 250 hours of supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that includes hospitals, private practices, educational facilities and UQ's internal clinics. During their placements, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework and research to practice and develop their clinical skills in real life settings.

Clinical placements commence in semester two of the program, and students may be allocated a placement during university breaks.

Students may be required to undertake clinical placements outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area and students are required to fund their travel, accommodation and daily living expenses.

Research component

The program incorporates advanced training in clinical reasoning and independent research. Students opt to undertake an individual or group research project in their final year.

Additional costs

  • Annual CPR re-certification (approximately $60 per year)
  • Students are expected to fund travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.
  • Senior First Aid Certificate (including CPR) (approximately $155 renewed every 3 years)
  • A clinical uniform shirt is required and may be purchased through the School.
  • Costs for vaccinations and serology are the responsibility of the student and will vary based on individual and program requirements.
