Why study the Graduate Diploma in Economics?

The Graduate Diploma allows students to study foundation courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics and extends those fundamentals. The program assumes no prior knowledge or training in economics. Further core courses also introduce students to important concepts for the study of economics such as mathematical techniques and statistics. Graduates of this program will have the option to advance to one of the School's #32 Masters programs thereby attaining further core economics skills and competencies. Obtaining a higher qualification in economics is a career investment. What you can do with a Graduate Diploma in Economics

Careers

Graduates may be employed as economists in government departments, in private sector firms or they may establish their own businesses. Graduates from the Graduate Diploma in Economics may also find teaching positions or positions within the financial industry.

Program rules for the Graduate Diploma in Economics

To complete the Graduate Diploma in Economics

To fulfil the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Economics, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

To complete the program, a student must complete 16 units from the GDipEcon course list comprising -

    (a) 14 units from part A of the list; and
    (b) 2 units from part B of the list.

If exemptions apply for Part A courses, students are to undertake electives from Part B. With Head of School approval, a student may include 2 units for a level 7 course towards part B. Refer to the GDipEcon rules for further information.
