Why study the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours)?
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) is a pre-service teacher qualification designed for effective teacher preparation in the unique contemporary context. The program develops capacities required by teachers working in the information age, a time of rapid change where education is recognised as playing an increasingly important role in society. The program develops teachers across prep to year 6, spanning the Early and Middle Phases of Learning. In particular, the program focuses on the development of skills, understandings and attributes that enable graduates to demonstrate specialist abilities with respect to:
- Literacy and numeracy
- Diversity and differentiated learning
- Leadership and research
- Connected practicum
What you can study
Minor studies are available in applied linguistics, Chinese, computer science/information technology, English, French, general maths, general science, geography, German, health and physical education, history, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Music, Philosophy, Spanish, and studies of religion.

Additional application requirements
Students are required to have a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before commencing the practicums. Students can apply for a Blue Card through the School of Education and should do so three months before their practicum is due to commence. The Practicum Handbook provides additional information about practicum and school experience requirements and is available from the School of Education.
From 2017, commencing students are required to successfully meet the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) standards prior to graduation. Current students (enrolled prior to 2017) are also strongly encouraged to meet the LANTITE test prior to graduation as you may be asked for evidence of this when seeking employment. Additional costs
- Students are expected to fund travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.
- From 2018, all students are required to successfully meet the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) standards prior to graduation.
- UQ committed to fund test costs to the end of 2018. From 1 January 2019 this is no longer available and students must cover this cost. The 2018 fee was $185 ($92.50 per test). ACER lists current fees.

Careers
From 2017, commencing students are required to successfully meet the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) standards prior to graduation. Current students (enrolled prior to 2017) are also strongly encouraged to meet the LANTITE test prior to graduation as you may be asked for evidence of this when seeking employment. The University has committed to pay for students to undertake the test for the period 2016 to 2018 inclusive.
