Why study the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)?

Placement courses
Students undertake supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that includes hospitals, educational facilities, other health care organisations, private practices and UQ's internal clinics. During placements, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework and research to practice and develop clinical skills in real life settings.
Students will undertake a variety of sessional practical experiences from year one before commencing full time block placements in year four.
Students may be required to undertake clinical placements outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area and students are required to fund their travel, accommodation and daily living expenses.

Research component
From year one, all students learn to be consumers, collaborators and generators of physiotherapy-related research, completing courses covering general research principles, statistics, health sciences research and research projects. Students integrate this into an evidence-based practice approach to clinical practice spanning from information literacy to knowledge translation. There is an opportunity for students who wish to pursue a research focus to undertake a research project in year 4.

Honours will be awarded to all graduates of this program.

International students who are currently enrolled in a different UQ program and are seeking to program change to the BPhty(Hons) are advised to lodge a new application with International Admissions by 30 November in the year prior to commencement. As places are limited, students who submit an internal program change request via mySi-net cannot be guaranteed an offer even if a student has met the pre-requisites.

Additional costs
- Annual CPR re-certification (approximately $60 per year)
- Students are expected to fund travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.
- Senior First Aid Certificate (including CPR) (approximately $155 renewed every 3 years)
- A clinical uniform shirt is required and may be purchased through the School.
- Costs for vaccinations and serology are the responsibility of the student and will vary based on individual and program requirements.
