Why study the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)?
The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (LLB(Hons)) degree is your passport to exceptional success in the employment market: as a barrister or solicitor in private practice, as a prosecutor of crime, as a community lawyer, as a legal officer in the public service, as in-house counsel for a large corporation, or, when combined with another degree in any one of a wide range of positions in areas such as accounting, education, foreign affairs, industrial relations, management, politics or taxation. This program will see you develop outstanding skills in critical analysis, thought and argument, skills which will be valuable in whatever career you eventually choose.
The LLB(Hons) offers a range of elective courses and extra-curricular activities that provide opportunities to put the knowledge you have acquired in the classroom into a practical context and enhance transferable skills such as advocacy and negotiation.

What you can do with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
Careers
UQ law graduates enjoy exceptional success in the employment market. Many law graduates enter into private practice as a barrister or solicitor. Others work as corporate lawyers for large firms, legal officers in the public service, community lawyers or in a wide range of positions outside the legal profession.
Admission to the Legal Profession:
The LLB (Hons) fulfils the academic requirements for admission as a legal practitioner throughout Australia. After fulfilling the Practical Legal Training requirement, graduates may apply for admission through the Legal Practitioners Admission Board, the body responsible for making recommendations to the Supreme Court in respect of applications for admission to the legal profession in Queensland.
If you are a student from another country, then once admitted in Australia, you may need to complete a number of conversion modules to be eligible for admission in your home country. For more details please contact the relevant admitting authority.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
To complete the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Laws (Honours), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain 64 units from the LLB (Hons) list comprising -
- 40 units of compulsory courses from Part A; and
- 16 units of elective courses from Part B; and
- 8 units of non-law electives from almost any undergraduate program in the University as approved by the Executive Dean.
