Why study the Education(Middle Years of Schooling) Dual Degree entry?
The middle years of schooling are increasingly recognised as a crucial stage of education, with significant consequences for ongoing success and participation in future society. Teachers for these year groups require specialist preparation as they teach across key learning areas. This program enables graduates to understand and manage issues related to young adolescents. Graduates meet the professional requirements necessary for teacher registration in Queensland. The non-education courses of the dual degree provide content relevant to teaching, schools and adolescents, while the BEd(MYS) aspect of the dual degree program provides curriculum content and teaching knowledge and skills. Students are prepared to teach the following key learning areas: arts (including drama, dance, media and visual arts); English; mathematics; science; study of society and environment; health and physical education; and technology. The teacher education courses are interdisciplinary and issues-based. Students focus on the nature of teaching in times of rapid change. Technologically delivered and field-based projects are integrated with practice teaching and an internship.
