The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Middle Years of Schooling) offers an integrated program preparing graduates to teach in the middle years of schooling (Years 4-9) and gain substantial teaching area knowledge. The program includes significant project based work and practical teaching experience in schools and the community, culminating in an internship that provides an induction into the teaching profession. The Bachelor of Arts provides a broad, flexible education preparing graduates to teach in a number of areas that are relevant to the Middle Years of Schooling and reinforces the importance of numeracy and literacy.

Placement courses
Compulsory Placement Course
Students are required to complete 80 days of supervised practicum and 15 days of internship over 4 semesters. They are also required to complete a 5 day community placement. Every effort is made to place students within a reasonable distance of their home base but they can be expected to travel up to 90 minutes due to public transport connections and incur costs associated with travel and possible lost income over this period. Students are generally placed at Ipswich, Brisbane, and southeast Queensland and are encouraged to explore the option of a rural placement. Rural scholarships are available from the School of Education to assist with travel and accommodation costs.

Honours is available as an additional year of study.

To complete the Bachelors of Arts/Education (Middle Years of Schooling)
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelors of Arts/Education (Middle Years of Schooling), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
- #32 from the BA list comprising
- #16 for a major;
- #8 for a minor;
- #6 from core courses; and
- #2 of approved electives
A minimum of #8 English courses must be included within the above requirements. English courses can be chosen from any course in the majors of English, English Language & Communication, and Writing. Of the #8 of approved electives, #6 must comprise ABTS1000, GEOS1100 and HIST1601 and the remaining #2 must be chosen from the list of approved BA electives. Where a student has completed one or more of the courses above as part of their major or minor then they may substitute that course with an approved elective. Approved electives are as follows: EDUC2005, HPRM1000, MATH1040, MATH1050, MATH1051, MUSC1700, MUSC1800, PYSC1030, RELN1000, SLAT2001, SOCY1050.
