Why study the Bachelor of Economics?

The study of economics is central to an understanding of business, markets, trade, government policies, international issues, globalisation, health, development, and the environment. This program is for students intending to become analysts, advisors, and economists in the public and private sectors and leads to careers in business, finance, international development, health, human resource management, marketing, management and research.

The UQ School of Economics is Queensland's largest, most experienced and influential economics school. What you can do with a Bachelor of Economics

Careers

Graduates work in a range of fields including international consulting; infrastructure development and planning; environmental management; international finance; investment and trade; natural resource and agricultural economics; public health; treasury and statistics.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Economics

To complete the Bachelor of Economics

To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Economics, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

A student is required to obtain 48 units from the BEcon List comprising -

  • 20 units of compulsory courses from Group 1; and
  • 10 units from Group 2; and
  • 10 units from Group 3; and
  • 8 units of general elective courses from Groups 2, 3 or 4, or from almost any other undergraduate program in the University as approved by the Executive Dean.

Excluding group 1, no more than 8 units may be level 1 courses.

Students wishing to complete a major will need to complete an approved combination of seven courses from the BEcon List for the relevant major, of which 6 units must be level 3 courses. Regardless of which major is chosen, the courses comprising the major must meet the Group 2, 3 and elective program requirements. Refer to the BEcon rules for further information.
