Why study the Bachelor of Environmental Management?
The Bachelor of Environmental Management prepares you to address many of the challenges faced by our environment locally and globally. The program bridges the gap between science and management, incorporating fundamental biophysical and social sciences and multidisciplinary skills in environmental management, decision making and policy analysis.
In your final year you will develop your ability to manage complex problems that threaten the survival of natural systems. Your study will go beyond a sound understanding of the natural sciences to include social, cultural, economic, legal and management aspects of environmental management.
The program focuses on two extended majors, Natural Systems & Wildlife or Sustainable Development. You can choose to specialise your program further in the following fields:

Bachelor of Environmental Management
Placement courses
Real, high-level professional skills are a focus of the program and there are a number of opportunities for you to apply what you learn through practical experience. A compulsory industrial placement semester in your third year will provide you with experience in the workplace and an understanding of the factors involved in the operation and management of environmental issues.
In your final year you will undertake an in-depth research project or a case study in conjunction with an external client where your knowledge and skills will be applied to a realworld environmental problem. Through these experiences you will develop skills and attributes highly valued by employers.
Field work
There are opportunities to participate in field trips to a diverse range of environments across Queensland as well as international locations such as Vietnam and Hong Kong. Field work is an important part of many of our courses and allows you to observe environmental issues and the steps undertaken to combat them first hand.Honours
Honours is available as part of the standard program awarded based on a cumulative weighted GPA. For details refer to the Program Rules.

Careers
You will find employment in managerial, research, administrative and education roles within consultancies, mining companies, government departments, landcare and catchment management groups, national and international NGOs.
Opportunities are available in a wide range of areas including:
- national parks and wildlife conservation
- sustainability advising
- environmental assessment and compliance
- natural resource management including coastal, river and catchment systems policy development
- government and commercial consultancies dealing with environmental planning and management
- the mining industry

Program rules for the Bachelor of Environmental Management
To complete the Bachelor of Environmental Management
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Environmental Management, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #64 comprising -
- #28 from Part A; and
- #16 units from part B in the chosen major; and
- #16 units from part D; and
- #4 units from part C
Honours may be awarded on the basis of the weighted cumulative GPA gained for overall courses that contribute to the program.
