Why study Sociology?

Sociologists analyse social change and investigate patterns of social behaviour. They use critical and analytical skills to discover the causes and consequences of social problems, to establish future directions of change, and to interpret the reasons for gender, ethnic, racial and class inequalities that have occurred in the past and are occurring in the present. Sociological study provides you with the intellectual tools to analyse and to build evidence-based findings on the pressing issues of our time. The Sociology major at UQ uncovers the heart of the disciplines underlying interest in inequality, power, cultural identity and the future of global society.
