Why study Materials and Manufacturing Engineering?

** This Field of Study is not available until Semester 2, 2019. Materials engineering is concerned with the selection, processing and development of materials to design and make products. Our quality of life and technological advancements we often take for granted are linked to the availability of engineered materials and products. Materials engineering allows us to further advance technology in virtually all aspects of engineering whether it is developing new materials for space exploration, new materials for medical devices, new energy storage materials or new environmentally friendly materials to name a few. Materials engineering goes hand in hand with manufacturing because the latest and greatest materials still need to be manufactured into engineered products. Manufacturing is an essential contributor to any advanced economy and modern manufacturing has become smarter, leaner, cleaner and more flexible. Innovative new manufacturing processes are revolutionising the way we design engineering products and allowing us to create complex, functional products once considered to be unmanufacturable. With Materials and Manufacturing Engineering you can work in the supply chain for almost any product in any industry as well as in specialised fields such as forensic failure analysis.
