Why study Indonesian?

Bahasa Indonesia is the official language of Indonesia, the fourth most populous and largest Muslim majority nation. With more than 300 million speakers, Indonesian is the fifth most widely spoken language in the world. The Indonesian major covers Indonesian history, politics, culture and society are offered through the Indonesian studies major. Indonesian is also commonly studied together with majors in Asian Studies, International Relations, Business, Law and Development. In the federal government's 2012 White Paper on `Australia in the Asian Century', Indonesian was identified as one of the crucial language skills areas for development. Indonesian at UQ is available for beginning, immediate and advanced students.
