Course description

The roles of protected areas in contemporary approaches to conservation and land management. Ecosystems and bioregions as the basis for establishment of protected area systems. Protected area management systems and approaches. Understanding the social and ecological linkages between protected areas and surrounding landscapes and communities. Managing the interactions between protected areas and resident and local communities. Applying the concepts of adaptive management and ecosystem management to protected areas.
