Course description

The threats posed to nation states, businesses and individuals by cyber criminals are expanding in reach and developing in their levels of technical sophistication. To counter such threats effectively requires the cyber security specialist to possess a detailed understanding of the `whys¿ and `hows¿ of cyber criminal activity ¿ why an individual might commit a cyber crime and, in turn, how such crimes are committed against a range of targets. In this foundation course, various criminological theories will be explored to explain an individual¿s involvement in cyber crime and the concept of cyber deviance will be examined in terms of the commission of cyber crimes, cyber-enabled crimes, cyber warfare and cyber terrorism.
