Course description

This course is not offered 2020. This course presents numerical methods for applications in different fields of Civil Engineering such as the mechanical behaviour of solids, structures and porous media (soils and rocks). The course also includes a brief review of computer programming for the implementation of all numerical methods discussed. This course has a practical approach without compromising the theory. The course enables the learning experience by using several computer examples and discusses the importance of fully understanding the limitations and capabilities of numerical methods such as the finite difference and the finite element methods for the approximation of stability problems, structural dynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow within porous media.
