Course description

This course is one of a suite of elective Architectural Research Courses that provide an opportunity to develop research skills and specialist knowledge relating to Architecture in Society. ARCH7093 focuses on research topics specific to community engagement and advocacy as avenues to influence architectural design and the built environment. Research may include: the critical evaluation of policy and regulatory frameworks and the role of community consultation in design processes; the exploration of design responses for specific user groups; and the analysis of occupancy evaluation methodology and evidence-based design. Research may be undertaken through: fieldwork; literature review; the development and testing of community consultation and post-occupancy evaluation methods; the formulation of written arguments or reports; and the exploration of alternative design briefs and proposals. Students will be part of a cohort working closely with an academic or practitioner experienced in the field with research topics grounded in real world engagement with current topics and challenges. This course may not be available every semester. Please consult the School of Architecture for semester availability including Summer Semester and intensive coursework offerings. This course may be offered as a single topic or multiple topics depending on the availability of subject experts and academics.
