Course description

This course is one of a suite of Architectural Research course that provide an opportunity to develop research skills and specialist knowledge relating to Society and the Built Environment. ARCH7091 focuses on topics specific to urbanism and the quality of urban environments, along with challenges to urban planning including climate change, demographics and density, tenure and speculation, governance and regulation, and changing concepts of public and civic space. Research may be undertaken through: fieldwork, community consultation, literature review, the formulation of written arguments or reports, and the development of design propositions that engage aspects of planning, landscape and urban design. Students will be part of a cohort working closely with an academic or practitioner experienced in the field with research topics grounded in real world engagement with research partners from industry, government, cultural organisations and allied research groups. This course may not be available every semester. Please consult the School of Architecture for semester availability including Summer Semester and intensive coursework offerings. This course may be offered as a single topic or multiple topics depending on the availability of subject experts and academics.
