This course is one of a suite of elective Architectural Research courses that provide an opportunity to develop research skills and specialist knowledge in the area of Architectural Technology and Practice. ARCH7072 focuses on research topics relating to the role of materials and making in architecture, including building tectonics and detailing, and emerging fabrication techniques. Research may be undertaken through the creative exploration and testing of materials; hands-on or digital making of small and full-scale models; and the documentation and critical evaluation of making processes through exhibitions, written exegesis and reports. Students will be part of a cohort working closely with an academic or practitioner experienced in the field with research topics grounded in real world engagement with research partners from industry, government, cultural organisations and allied research groups. This course may not be available every semester. This course may be offered as a single topic or multiple topics depending on the availability of subject experts and academics.
